PERSIAN AND AZERBAIJANI RUGS
Our selection of Persian carpets encompases both new and old. A revival of natural dying techniques and older designs is taking place in Iran as it has been in Turkey and Pakistan. Wonderful new designs complement those ages old and exectued in vibrant natural dyes and plush handspun wool. Luribaft, a rather generic name is applied to the carpets from the Zagros Mountain area. Mostly woven by Luri and Qashqa'i weavers, they have vibrancy that is unique to the region. We carry new natural dye pieces from Bijar in the northwest of Iran as well as a selection of naturally dyed Bakhtiari carpets that are as wonderful to the eye as the hand..
We keep in stock a variety of recent to semi-Antique Persian tribal carpets and village work shop pieces. Heriz, Kashan, Meshad, Kerman, and Bijar are our main areas for workshop rugs. The Zagros mountain region and the northwest of Iran provide many of our vintage tribal pieces.
Our contemporary Azerbaijani rugs come from a very small scale production based in Baku, which has weavers through out Azerbaijan. Only natural dyes and handspun wools are used, specifics for each piece are available upon request.Custom pieces are possible, weaving time varies based upon design and size, traditional Caucasian designs are the most common, though designs from the Azerbaijan province of Iran and a range of antique designs from Anatolia that are related to Caucasian designs are also possible. When executing Azerbaijani designs, the weaving is done in the original villages or districts that historically wove such patterns.
